    Something went wrong with my connections

    Hi,

    Love your work.  I've been using the Wiimote lib for the last couple of months.  I've had no problem at all, and have even managed to connect two wiimotes simultaneously.  However, all of a sudden I can't get the WiimoteLib to work.  The bluetooth seems to be connecting like normal - the lights keep flashing etc.  But when I try to run the test application, everything goes screwy.  I get told that it cannot read from the wiimote and asks if it is connected.

    Now, to make things interesting, this happens on three different laptops.  It all worked on Friday, and I haven't made any changes that are common to all three computers.

     Two of them are Dell's using a Sitecom bluetooth dongle, the third is a Macbook Pro running XP from bootcamp.  It does work on my friend's laptop using BlueSoleil instead of the Bluetooth connection utility that comes on my XP machines, but I want to know why this is happening.

     Have you got any ideas?  Has Microsoft made some kind of update that changed things?  Am I the only one?

    Thanks,
    Steve

    That's absolutely bizarre.  I haven't seen that occur.

    Not sure I have an answer.  It sounds like it found the Wiimote in the device list and fails when it tries to talk to it the first time (based on the error you listed).

    Can you delete the devices from the bluetooth control panel and go through the pairing process from scratch?

    Anyone else see this?

    I'm actually getting the same exception, if I'm lucky! Most of the time running the test program gives me a BSOD (tried on a laptop and tower both running XP with a Belkin dongle). It does work with glovePIE ok, so I don't think it's the setup - but being open source I'd like to get this working with your library =) Stacey

    Ah, It didn't like the fact that there was more than one Wiimote in the device list, with only one connected. If there's only one 'mote in the list, or both are connected while using bluesoleil it works fine. Stacey

    i'm getting the same problem.. i'm using in-built bluetooth on my NEC laptop.. it worked fine but now it cant read data from the wiimote... i've tried it several times by removing the device and reconnecting it but still cant work.. as for the software bluesoleil.. is that required still since my laptop has in-built bluetooth? and i've heard that it doesnt work for vista...

    I fixed it by:

    Going to Device Manager and uninstalling everything bluetooth related.  Then, I went to "Add/Remove Hardware" and installed it all again.  Then, it worked.  I don't know if this is overkill, and I don't know exactly which step fixed it.  But it did work, and that's all I cared about.

     It has happened since, and this fix worked for it, and on other computers.

    Let me know if it works for you.

    Re: Something went wrong with my connections

    Hi! It's the same problem posted by me and Alessandro on some other threads.

    I think something has gone wrong after some Windows update (e.g., SP3 for XP) or similar.

    Summing up, the issues are the following:

    - if you have registered more than 1 wiimote and then you use only some of them, you get an exception while connecting (the option to check if the device is connected is just ignored at least in my experience);

    - with some bluetooth stacks you can simply connect no more than 1 wiimote, since other ones, even if connected, are not seen and you get the exception.

     I propose the following workarounds:

    - connect all the wiimotes you registered or remove them from the list of bluetooth devices (simple, but boring and does not fix the issue)

    - update the library by handling the exception: e.g., as exception raises, remove that wiimote from the collection, and continue working with the others; since this requires some changes in the code, it would be best if Brian does it and includes it in the next release; in the past I did some ad hoc changes (e.g., to handle more than one wiimote), but now I had to throw them away and fix dependencies all around my code to use the new version of the library, so it is just better to have a single source of code; I can provide a bit of help if needed;

    - check with MS how they modified Bluetooth stuff and ask them for a bugfix (since, in particular, the setting to ignore unconnected devices is ignored Smile).

    Bests,

    Fabio.

    Hi! Could you please register or sign the posts? I cannot guess who you are since there are several anonymous posts.

    Have you got the problem with Vista? If so, the crazy thing is that, for me, on Vista it runs ok, but it does not work on XP! Tongue Tied

    Anyway, it's obvious that something happen recently with MS updates or similar, since the library (any version) suddently stop working after it has been ok for months...

    Hi~ Yah, i have problem with vista.. it worked once but somehow couldnt work after that.. wondering if it's becoz of ms updates... Hmms.. i used bluesoleil for windows XP to get it connected.. did u try bluesoleil? or maybe u could try uninstalling and installing again? this thing doesnt seem very stable. I'm currently working on a program to interface wiimote with itunes, but funny thing is, I could get some of the functions working yet at times they just refused to work, and I couldnt figure out why.. :( Lunz

    Re: Something went wrong with my connections

    Hi! Things are becoming more and more strange now: on a PC running Win XP, I managed to have 2 wiimotes working for a while, but today I started having problems.

    The funny thing is that by replacing one of the wiimotes with another one it works!

    So the issue may be also wiimote dependent...
